uncanny...

This evening, as I was driving to choir practice, the kids and I were listening to InkDeath on audio CD's.  I was immersed in the story, so, instead of heading to the church, I turned towards the kids' school (my usual destination).  I was quite annoyed at myself, as I ended up on thick DeRenne traffic that I shouldn't have had to deal with, but then I saw a very good friend, Virginia, stranded on the side of the road.  I pulled over to see if she needed help, but her husband had also just arrived.  Anyhow, when I later told her that I wasn't supposed to have been driving that way and perhaps had been drawn to my friend in distress, she told me that she had been wishing to see a friend as she stood out there!  She didn't need my help, but it's a rather uncanny coincidence, isn't it?

Enthusiasm changing

Happy Valentine's to all!

Hmm, it's been a while since I've written on here...  Just thought I'd update a little.  The writing thing was short-lived.  I started two different stories, but the enthusiasm was rapidly quenched with the stuff of daily life.  While I could and may go back to them, I currently don't have a lot of passion for it.  Oh well...
Rock Band, a Wii game, is the new enthusiasm in our household.  I'm not sure about the influence on the kids, or myself, for that matter!  I've been finding myself listening to pretty heavy music in the car lately...
Alex is almost always a guitarist, Fiona generally plays bass, Michael drums, and I sing.  It's definitely fun, if not productive.

Reading genius, precocious composer

I am bursting with maternal pride tonight!  We had conferences with the kids' teachers today, and both received lots of praise.  Alex's teacher, Ms. Carol, shared with us the results from a reading assessment given to Alex, who is in 4th grade and just turned 10.  He scored a reading comprehension grade level of 12.9+!  We were amazed!  The joke is that he'll start college classes this summer.

Then, at home tonight, Fiona picked out an original melody on the piano.  I wrote it down and created a simple harmony for it.  It's really a charming melody--I'd love to here it in a music box.  She then made up lyrics for it, too.

Brilliant, creative kids!  Lucky parents!
