Our Peeps!

We have finally received our chicks! They were probably born around Aug 22nd and these pics are when they were about 3 days old or so. They are so much fun! We are keeping them in the rabbit pen (minus the rabbit!) for about 5 weeks or so, with a heat lamp, and then they will move outside. They are little balls of fluff, and it's so interesting to watch them. When they get sleepy, their heads slowly tilt forward beak-first! They all sleep face down! Three of them have some early feathers on their wings, but they haven't hit the awkward stage yet. We all just LOVE them! They are so adorable, but they went through a couple of days of establishing pecking order, and they still peck at each other occasionally. The 'three French hens' are Salmon Faverolles (the yellow ones) and two are Black Australorps.

First Household Help!

For the first time ever, I've had some help on my house from some quite nice barter clients. It's a curious experience, as I find it hard to be relaxed while they're here and I have anxiety about people going through our things and seeing our mess. However, our study/playroom/family room over the garage has been de-junked and straightened and is once again a livable, pleasant room that we are enjoying. Not that I couldn't have done it alone theoretically, but the fact is that I hadn't. It's nice to have this scheduled and carried out. I'm much more motivated on a timeline, and, well, they're doing a huge part of the work! It's nice! They are coming to work here at the house again today, so we'll see how it goes...
